The Wheaten Mill is a small family-run business based at Elmsett in Suffolk, dedicated to producing quality handmade foods.
In 2003 whilst at home looking after her 3 young children, Joanne DiDuca decided to bake some cakes to sell at a local W.I. market as a way of supplementing the family income. The response she got encouraged her to try and sell to a wider audience and so she began trading at Farmers Markets. As a result of this she was approached by a number of Farm Shops and Tearooms, asking her to supply them, and the growth of the business has continued in this manner ever since ? mostly coming through word of mouth recommendations. Although other people now assist her with different aspects of the business, Joanne still cooks all products herself and takes great pride in maintaining the quality with which The Wheaten Mill is associated.
Locally-produced ingredients are used wherever possible. An example of this is the eggs that we use (currently over 1600 per week) which are free range eggs from Gate Farm at Flowton, and so travel less than 2 miles to get to us!
Although the volume that we produce has increased significantly over recent years, we are committed to maintaining the handmade quality, taste and presentation of our products, whilst constantly offering our customers tempting new products of an equally high standard.
We supply packaged products for sale through Farm Shops, Delicatessens, Village Stores etc., and also larger batches for sale by the slice at Tearooms and Coffee Shops. Currently we deliver at least once a week throughout Suffolk and North Essex, however our delivery area is constantly expanding as we add new outlets.
